Are you an emerging filmmaker who loves to make sci-fi films? Or an actor who loves sci-fi and want more practice?
Then book a place in this filmmaking workshop with a difference. It is not your usual teacher student workshop, but more of a study circle where we actually get to make a short film, a Sci-Fi anthology within the Space Faring Civilisation Universe , and learn by doing. We will provide you with the environment, support/guidance and tools to practice and/or learn new skills. You will commit to professional and safe conduct during the workshops. This a great place to try new things and learn techniques to make sci-fi on limited resources.
Please note the focus will be mainly on Science Fiction, not fantasy or horror, in these workshops.
Try out this workshop for free before the terms start. It's a condensed version of the workshop, which is normally spread over three sessions within a term, in one session. Book now by adding to cart. Limited places.
Free Sci-Fi Filmmaking Workshop - 19 Jan 2019 - Saturday 9:00 - 13:00 @ Game Plus Canberra Technology park.
So the idea is to gain experience of an entire production in various roles. It’s the strength of this workshop that gives you an opportunity to try roles that normally may not be available to you in short films destined for film festivals. Also you’ll gain the following benefit:
Learn team work ( Primary benefit)
Improve on your Acting skills
Improve your creative skills
Improve your technical skills
Try new roles
Improve SFX and Sci-Fi filmmaking techniques
Boost your portfolio with actual short film, not just a student film
There will be four workshops in a year, known here as terms. i.e. Term One, Term two etc. You can sign up to as many terms as you like, we recommend sign up to the next term to see if you like it and then consecutive terms to expand your skills. Each workshop is partitioned into 3 sessions. Each session is 3 hours long. Sessions are:
Pre-production - Where we develop a 1-2 page script, story board, cast & crew list (each student will take on at least 2 roles to challenge yourselves), and shot list.
Production - We setup, film, review and pack up
Post-production - We edit, add SFX (optional), sound design and AFX , and record workshop feedbacks
In between the sessions students will be given homework to prepare for the next session, depending on their role, eg: rehearsing, costumes preparations, Prop preparations, Post-production materials etc.
SFC Anthology Workshops are held in the following terms for 2019. Students can sign up for one term or multiple terms. Each term we’ll be doing a different story, so you'll learn something new or take on different roles.

About Your Tutor (Masoud Varjavandi)
I'm an emerging filmmaker with a passion for optimistic Sci-Fi. I don't claim to know it all, but I have done a few sci-fi short films check them out below, and continue to make them. Some have won awards, but mostly I have learned a lot. Check them out at link below:
I'd like to share with you what I have learned and guide you through making a sci-fi short film. However more importantly this workshop is a great space for us all to learn from each other and share our love for Sci-Fi genre, specifically optimistic Sci-Fi.
